There is an old saying that goes “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”. While, our comfort zones may vary from person to person, the quote holds true for everyone. As human beings, we tend to get caught up in our daily routine and we forget what it truly means to live. We forget about what truly makes us happy in life and we become content and stationary with our daily lives. We need to be continuously challenging ourselves to be better and come out of our comfort zone. It can be a huge risk to try something new and be uncomfortable, but sometimes those risks have amazing positive life changing results. Oregon based Photographer and Outdoor Enthusiast, Elena Pressprich, tries everyday to inspire people with her photos to challenge themselves and live a life that makes them happy. She has amassed a huge Instagram following where she shares her inspirational message and adventures through her amazing photos!
Here are Elena’s tops reasons for why it is important to challenge ourselves, take risks, and step out of our comfort zone.
1. IT CAN BE FUN AND REWARDING
“Follow your heart, and your mind, and allow yourself to get into new things, scary and fun! Even if your heart and mind doesn’t exactly want to take risks, you know deep down, it’s time you probably should. And by risk, I don't mean go cliff jumping because you're afraid of heights (but heck, if you want to you should!). I mean, eat something you’ve never tried before, go out of your way to help someone, go places alone, go places with new friends. Small “risks” or moments of putting yourself out there, can be so fun and rewarding and don't need to be anything absolutely insane. You may think the stories you heard of all these people living great lives taking all sorts of risks live very different lives than you do, but I bet you the majority of their life was very similar to your own. It’s all about perspective. Be more open to opportunity and more opportunity will be open to you!”
2. BEING COMFORTABLE IS THE QUICKEST WAY TO DIE
“I think it is really easy to get comfortable in our lives. Comfortable in relationships, at home, in work, and while some of that is healthy and important; I also feel that it’s the quickest way to die. Life will go way too fast before you realize your time is up. Throwing in new activities, new friends, new travels, life will slow down and give you a new light and allow you to see things you may not have seen while living comfortably and reserved.”
3. YOU WILL LIVE A HAPPIER LIFE
"My motto is to always do what makes you happy. If you’re doing something that isn't making you completely happy, change it now, because your time is now, not later. Be honest, be open and be real. I'm here to make memories and live it all the fullest, heart, eyes and arms wide open. Surround yourself with people that are going to inspire you and challenge you. You'll learn more about what you want, what you don't, and where you are strong. Push yourself, get uncomfortable and try new things, because routine is the quickest way to die. While some routine is necessary, it's also healthy to break it. Change is hard, but necessary as humans to grow, learn, and experience. If you don't like something, change it now. What or who you are looking for exists, you just have to be open. Eyes, arms, heart. Be brave, be intentional, be conscious, and most importantly, be present. Listen more. And LOVE the shit out of everything and everyone. Everyday.”
